Let's prepare a Mate


To enjoy good mates, the kind that stay with you throughout the morning, it is very important that you pay attention to proper preparation. The step by step in your preparation is essential to obtain a good yield from your yerba mate.

How to prepare mate - Step by Step


1. Heat up the water and bring it to a simmer (around 70-80°C; 160-180°F).


2. Next, fill your mate about ¾ with loose yerba mate.


3. Cover the top of the mate with the palm of the hand, turn the mate upside down while covering it and give it a light shake. This helps ensure that all the yerba´s components are mixed together.


4. Tap one side of the mate to create a 45 degree “little mountain” of yerba mate and an empty space on the other side of the mate.


5. Moisten the empty space with a splash of warm water and let it rest for 2 minutes.


6. Moisten the empty space with a splash of hot water and let it rest for 4 minutes.


7. Gently insert the filter tip of the bombilla (straw) into the empty space until the filter touches the bottom. The bombilla will always rest on the border of the mate.


8. Pour hot water into the mate cavity against the bombilla avoiding reaching the top of the yerba mate to keep the “mountain” dry.


9. Congratulations, you can enjoy some delicious mates.
